A 26-year-old security man, Paul Oko, has been remanded in prison for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old pupil of the school under his watch. Chief Magistrate of Ikeja Magistrate Court, Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Prison.

Sule-Amzat ordered the police to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. The magistrate adjourned the case until June 20 for further hearing.

The defendant, who lives at Olalusi Street, Ikorodu, Lagos, was charged with defilement. Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 24 at about 3:00p.m. at his security post in Train Field Nursery and Primary School, Irawo New site, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Emuerhi alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the minor. “The security man who works with the school as a guard, unlawfully defiled the pupil by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her,” he said.

Meanwhile, two men, Michael Adeneye and Segun Oladipupo, have appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates‘ Court for allegedly belonging to a secret cult and unlawful possession of firearms. Adeneye, 27, and Oladipupo, 28, are facing charges of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearm and belonging to secret cult.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with some other persons still at large on February 16 at about 5:00p.m. at No. 1, Aloma Street, off Haruna in Ikorodu, near Lagos.

Unah said the defendants were caught by the police with an unlicensed double barrel pistol, four axes, one Berretta magazine, 19 live Berretta ammunition and 50 cartridges. He also alleged that the defendants belonged to a secret cult, known as “Alora confraternity.”

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 41, 411 and 330 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 330 provides a two-year jail term for illegal possession of firearms.

The Magistrate, Mr. A.A. Fashola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum. He adjourned the case until May 21.
