Court remands man in prison for alleged kidnap

A MAGISTRATE’S Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday remanded an accused, Ayomide Festus, 26, in prison custody, for allegedly kidnapping one Funmilayo Abiona and also robbing one Oluseye Abiona.

The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade, who gave the order, said the accused should be kept behind the bars because of the gravity of the offences he committed, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The court then adjourned the case to Oct. 26 for hearing. The prosecutor, ASP Wilson Mireti, had earlier on told the court that the accused conspired with others at large to kidnap one Funmilayo Abiona and also robbed one Dr Oluseye Abiona of the sum of N600, 000 at gunpoint.

Mireti said the accused persons took their victim to an undisclosed place to prevent any person from having access to her. He said the accused was later apprehended with the intervention of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Osogbo, while the other culprits ran away during the raid.

Mireti said the offences committed contravened Section 6(B) and punishable under Sections 1(1), 1(1)(2)(a)(b), 516, 364 (2) and 406 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap R11 Vol. 14 Laws of Federation.

He also said that it contravened the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003. The accused pleaded not guilty but the court did not take the plea because of the gravity of the offences.
