A Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Evbuoriaria, Benin City, yesterday ruled that an ex-militant, Pere Ejune and his younger brother, Trim Ade, be reminded in Oko Prison for being in possession of a double-barrel gun and 18 live cartridges.

But the counsel to the accused, Olayiwola Afolabi, argued that his client was being prosecuted for political reasons, following his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In the case filed by the Edo State Police Command, the two and others said to be at large, committed the crime on September 8, 2016 at Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City.

Magistrate C.E. Oghuma adjourned the case to October 20, 2016, for further hearing.

She ordered that the original case file be duplicated and sent to the office of the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Afolabi said:  “They were charged to court for unlawful possession of firearms under the Robbery and Firearms.
