Court remands ‘bishop’ in prison over alleged N500m fraud

The Federal High Court, sitting in Enugu yesterday remanded the self-acclaimed Bishop of the City of Liberation and Comfort Ministry, Enugu, Ginika Obi in prison for allegedly defrauding members of the public to the tune of over N500 million.

The Federal High Court, sitting in Enugu yesterday remanded the self-acclaimed Bishop of the City of Liberation and Comfort Ministry, Enugu, Ginika Obi in prison for allegedly defrauding members of the public to the tune of over N500 million.

Obi, who was arrested recently, several months after he abandoned his church located at KM 111 Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway and ran away, was arraigned on 82 count charges that bothered on conspiracy and advance fee fraud.

His arraignment came as a result of discreet investigations carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit, Enugu anchored on several petitions against him and others now at large on their alleged nefarious activities of swindling unsuspecting members of the public with a promise to make them reap huge bumper financial dividends.

He had allegedly disappeared without trace after swindling them, leading to the closure of his church until police operatives through intelligence information arrested him in a hotel around Amechi road axis of the state in August this year.

It was further gathered that following his arrest, victims in their number, had been trooped to the police station monitoring unit where the case was being handled with complaints/petitions bothering on what the said Bishop and his cohorts did to them.The court yesterday adjourned till November 1 and 2, further hearing on the matter.
