Court jails man for stealing ram

A thirty-year-old man, Sulaiman Awokunle, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Osogbo Magistrate’s court in Osun State for allegedly stealing a ram.

A thirty-year-old man, Sulaiman Awokunle, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Osogbo Magistrate’s court in Osun State for allegedly stealing a ram.

The police, who dragged Awokunle to court accused him of stealing the ram valued at N25,000 on August 22, 2017 around 6:00a.m. at Onunrin’s compound in Iree, Osun.

The police prosecutor, Elisa Olusegun, informed the court that the ram belonged to a ram seller identified as Saka Idowu of Onunrin’s compound, Oke Ogi area, Iree.

Olusegun said the accused person committed the offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume. II, Laws of Osun state of Nigeria, 2003.

Awokunle pleaded guilty to the one count-charge of theft preferred against him but begged the court for leniency. The Magistrate, Adenike Olowolagba, found Awokunle guilty as charged and sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option to pay a fine of N4,000.
