Court hears suit to unseat Accord Party’s chairman tomorrow

A Federal High Court, Benin City, Edo State will tomorrow hear a suit filed a chieftain, Dr. Samson Isibor, seeking an interlocutory injunction to stop Lawal Nalado from parading himself forthwith as national chairman of the beleaguered Accord Party.

In the motion on notice, Isibor claimed that Nalado was holding other public offices in contravention to the party’s constitution. He specifically cited Section 24 (9) of the political grouping’s extant lawbook.

Besides Nalado, others joined as defendants in the suit include Nureni Adisa and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He contended that Nalado ceased to be the party’s national leader the very moment he was appointed as chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State in 2013 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“We are asking the Federal High Court to grant us a perpetual injunction to restrain Nalado from further parading himself as the national chairman of Accord Party pending the determination of the substantive suit,” Isibor told The Guardian yesterday.
