Court adjourns Metuh’s case to May 17 on health grounds

Hearing in the case involving the National Publicity Secretary, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, could not hold at the Federal High Court as scheduled yesterday.

This followed an adjournment till May 17 and 18 due to Metuh’s ill health.Metuh and his counsel team were in court by 9 a.m. Immediately his case was called Justice Okon Abang said it was not necessary to make a pronouncement, consequently adjourning the matter to Tuesday and Wednesday, May 17 and 18 for continuation of trial.

Metuh was reported to have slumped Tuesday at the PDP secretariat at the inauguration of caretaker committees for Yobe and Borno state chapters of the party.

He was said to have been rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital, Abuja, from where he was later moved to a private ward.

Speaking outside the courtroom, Metuh said he managed to come to court from the hospital against doctor’s advice in order to uphold his bail condition.

“I insisted on coming to court against doctor’s advice. You know I was granted bail on a condition that I would be available in court and no matter where I am or the condition I am, if I am not here, my bail might be revoked and I do not want it to be revoked,” he explained.“I have been here for three hours and we have not yet started. That is why my lawyers called for an adjournment.

“The doctor did not want to release me but I insisted I must be in court. Many things have been said against me and I cannot wait to defend myself,” Metuh maintained.
