The Amayanabo of Abonnema, in Akuku- Toru Local Council of Rivers State, His Royal Majesty, Disreal Bobmanuel, has been suspended over allegations of witchcraft.

The Amayanabo of Abonnema, in Akuku- Toru Local Council of Rivers State, His Royal Majesty, Disreal Bobmanuel, has been suspended over allegations of witchcraft.

The Council of Chiefs of Abonnema, said the suspension followed the far-reaching implications the allegations would pose to elders, leaders and by extension, the Abonnema community.

In a statement signed by members of the Council of Chiefs yesterday, Alabo G.Graham -Douglas, Chief Enoch Granville and five others noted that until the issues surrounding the allegations were fully resolved, the monarch was no longer fit to preside over the affairs of the council.

They urged him to heed perform self-cleansing to prove his innocence. Part of the statement reads: “The Abonnema Council of Chiefs, having exhaustively deliberated the issues surrounding the allegations of witchcraft against you, we the undersigned, representing a majority of the incumbents of the 11 founding fathers of Abonnema, hereby notify that you are suspended as Chairman, Abonnema Council of Chiefs, unless and until you perform the self- cleansing exercise…

The chiefs appointed O. B. Lulu Briggs to oversea the affairs of the council until the issue surrounding the allegations were resolved. Efforts to get the monarch’s reaction were futile as phone calls failed to go through as at press time.
