Fifty inmates have been released from prison following the intervention of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who secured their release in Katsina State.

The development is part of the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) under its Legal Aid Scheme. President of the NYSC Legal Aid Scheme, Peter Terve Gbende, said it secured the release of the inmates between the period of 2016 till date.

Gbende also said release of the inmates was secured through bail applications and that no fines were paid in the process. He said the inmates were in prison custody mostly for drug-related offences, while others were incarcerated due to rape and homicide-related offences.

He said in addition to securing release of the inmates, sensitization campaigns against drug abuse were carried out in some public secondary schools in the metropolis.
