Continue dispensing justice fearlessly, Usoro tells judges

President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Paul Usoro (SAN) has urged judges to continue in their onerous task of dispensing justice in the country without fear or favour.

He gave the charge while addressing judges at the opening ceremony of the 2018/2019 legal year of the Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday.

In a statement made available to The Guardian, he also encouraged the judges to remain loyal and faithful to the profession, stressing that they should continue in their arduous task of dispensing justice without fear or intimidation even of those in high places.

“We respectfully urge your lordships to always keep in mind the weighty responsibilities that rest on your shoulders,” he said.

Usoro said the legal year was anything but ordinary due the involvement of politicians in judicial matters, especially as the 2019 general elections draw nearer.

He commended the judges for not allowing political issues to affect their dispensation of cases and urged them to keep up the good act, adding: “Happily, your lordships have always resisted those attempts and it is our hope that you will maintain this stance and position at all times.”

While congratulating the recently appointed Chief Judge (CJ) of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdul Kafarati, he extolled his virtues, saying: “We are certain that his knack for hard work, firmness in dispensing justice without fear or favor, deep knowledge of the law and integrity, stood him out for the appointment.”
