The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that the successful implementation of the national strategy for competitiveness in raw materials, products and services in Nigeria would save the country over N3 trillion in foreign exchange for the short period of five years.

Onu, who stated this yesterday in Abuja at the first Competitiveness Consultative Forum for Regulatory Establishments in Nigeria, also disclosed that the successful implementation of the strategy would yield about N4.2 million quality and decent jobs and lead to a 10.8 per cent import reduction of goods.

He said: “I am convinced that the successful implementation of this national strategy would yield immense benefits to ensure an irreversible indigenous industrialisation process, high productivity, enhanced value addition, quality employment generation, poverty alleviation and prosperity for our nation.

“Adoption of science, technology and innovation in industries and businesses will result in high quality made-in-Nigeria products that would attract higher demand patronage by local and foreign consumers.”

Onu noted that successful industry and business relationships with the tertiary, research and development institutions in production would positively impact on improved academic curriculum, as well as helping in producing graduates with appropriate industry complaint skills.
