Collect your PVCs, elect credible leaders, Gaidam tells Yobe electorate

Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, yesterday charged the electorate to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before the Continuous Voters’
Registration (CVR) exercise ends on August 31, 2018.

The governor made the call in his message during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations at Government House, Damaturu.

He said obtaining PVCs is the only guaranteed means to elect credible and responsible leaders in the 2019 general elections in the state.

According to him, elected leaders will effectively use the power of representation to make good decisions on the yearnings and aspirations of people at the state and national levels.

While urging the people to obtain their national identity cards, he also stressed the importance of registering with National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

He enjoined Muslims to relate effectively with adherents of other religions and humanity for peace and unity and asked the electorate not to take their security for granted, but continue to be vigilant with their neighbours.

Gaidam further urged them to concentrate on doing good to neighbours, orphans, the poor and needy in society.

“We must make sacrifices in order to strengthen our collective endeavour for the attainment and sustenance of a harmonious, peaceful, disciplined, fair, just and cohesive society.

“The sacrifices is to uphold ties that bind Muslims, followers of other religions and all fellow human beings together by showing natural inclinations through respect, kindness, love, generosity and trust,” he said.

He noted that sacrifices made during the festive period symbolise willingness to give up on things and bounties that benefit others.

“We should share the good things we have with our neighbours, the poor and the needy among us in the spirit of brotherhood,” he said.

Gaidam also pledged to continue with his service delivery through the implementation of his administration’s policies and programmes until May 29 next year.

“As we approach the last lap of our administration, our focus shall continue to be geared towards consolidating the improved security situation in the state, completion of ongoing projects and giving attention to post-insurgency resettlement,” he stated.

He explained that post-insurgency resettlement include rehabilitation and reconstruction through effective and efficient collaboration with development partners and other stakeholders.
