Cleric seeks intensive prosecution of corruption war
The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastic Province, Dr Anthony John Valentine Obinna, has called for intensive prosecution of the war against corruption for the sake of development in Nigeria.
The former teacher at then Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, regretted that the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute “very visible politicians who have looted Nigeria’s public treasury” was worrisome.
Obinna, who delivered the 34th Public Lecture on the topic: “Winning the War against Corruption in Nigeria from the Education Context” at the Hall of Excellence of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State, noted that the corruption should not be fought by all in lip service, advising that the prosecution of the war against corruption should be done the same way it was done when it had “Buhari- Effect” in 1984.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Chigozie Asiabaka, said the choice of Obinna by the authorities of FUTO was painstaking.
