Cleric asks Christians to be watchful ahead of 2019 polls

To overcome the current socio economic challenges in the country, Christians must move from praying for the success of the elections, to getting involved in the process.

This position was canvassed by the Senior Pastor of The Worship Centre, an Assembly of Christ Apostolic Church, Seyi Adeyemi.

He told Christians that being watchful would ensure the emergence of credible leaders with integrity and people’s interest, which would lead to economic transformation of the country.

Adeyemi made the charge yesterday at a press conference in Lagos to announce its Apostolic Fire conference scheduled to hold from January 11 to 13, 2019 at the church auditorium.

The pastor cautioned Christians against complaining about bad leadership and insists on doing the right thing, rather than selling their votes for a pot of porridge.

According to him, watching entails Christians to bring forthrightness into the electoral process, and be involved in issue-based discussions, proffer brilliant and progressive ideas, as well as identifying the best candidates and voting for them.

He said: “As we enter into the election year, the nation again comes to a cross road. The role of the church should be more than praying. The Bible tells us to watch and pray, so we need not neglect watching. Great counties of the world were built on Christian ideals.”

The cleric stressed: “The more genuine, spirit filled Christians, like the Biblical Joseph, Daniel, Meshach, Shedrack and Abednego that we can get into the position of power, the better for our nation.”
