Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammadu, yesterday unveiled 866 students of the Nigerian Law School as barristers and solicitors to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Speaking at the ceremony that held at the International Conference Center, Abuja, the CJN cautioned the newly admitted lawyers to the Nigerian Bar to shun acts capable of bringing the legal profession to disrepute.

He also urged them to perform their role as legal practitioners with integrity and competence, stressing that the Body of Benchers would not hesitate to expel any erring lawyer from the legal profession if found wanting.

He, therefore, admonished the new lawyers on professional development so as to keep themselves abreast of latest developments in the profession, country and across the globe.

Speaking, Director General, Nigerian Law School, Professor Idama Hayatu Chiroma (SAN) stated that the newly inducted lawyers were products of the 2019 Bar resit examination.

Congratulating the lawyers, Chiroma tasked them to excel anywhere they find themselves.

“Products of the School have commanding presence in other spheres of public and private sector such as the military, police, customs, immigration, oil and gas sector, banking and finance, insurance and the corporate world, and as lecturers in universities and other tertiary institutions.”

“Some of these products have achieved profound feat of getting to the top of their career nationally and internationally,” he stated.

Chiroma explained that 850 candidates were successful in the April 2019 Bar Final examinations, while 16 were from the previous Bar Final Examinations.

He noted that the Council of Legal Education in 2016 approved that resit students for the Bar Final Examinations should undertake a two-month revision exercise for eligibility to write the examinations.
