Christmas Carol in schools lost to parties, says principal

Celebrating Christmas Carol in schools across the nation has been described as an important way to inculcate Christian values in children which could guide them to a brighter future and ensure a better tomorrow for the country.

Coordinator, The New Covenant Baptist Academy, Mr. Adetona Benson made the observation at the school’s carol service held at the school’s premises in Akute, Ogun State recently.

According to him, celebration of Christmas Carol is significant as it marks the period Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners from their sin but lamented that today, the tradition has been lost to parties in various schools.

Highlights of the event include choreography performed by the students and Christmas songs rendered by the school choir.

Meanwhile, Christians have been advised to show love and demonstrate godly virtue to others through giving of gifts to those who are in need in the society.

An Academic Staff member of Igbobi College, Rev. Mrs. Omobola Akerele gave the advice in a sermon titled “ The Birth of Christ’ during the school’s Christmas Carol and service of Nine Lessons, held at the Igbobi school premises recently.

Akerele observed that many people perceive Christmas as a time to curry favour of people in government by showering them with gifts during the yuletide.

She added that many also use the season to chase cheap popularity by donating gifts to attract headlines in the media. She decried the practice, which she noted is fast gaining ground among Christians.
