Christians still believe in country’s unity despite attacks, says CAN

Despite the unabated kidnapping and insurgency in some parts of Nigeria, which have the potential of threatening the country’s unity, Christians’ faith in its corporate existence is unshaken, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said.

The acting secretary general, Joseph Daramola, stated this yesterday when Kaduna State chapter of CAN donated relief materials to victims of attacks by armed bandits in Kajuru, Kasuwa Maigani and other communities in southern Kaduna. Daramola explained that the bandits mostly target Christians in the country, pointing out that the attacks would be history one day.

“The Israelites suffered hardship, but God eventually freed them from the Egyptians after several years in the hands of Pharaoh. One day, this insecurity will come to an end. It is on this note that I want to commend the chairman of Kaduna CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, for ensuring that succour is brought to victims in the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Kaduna.

“Hope is not lost for the victims; God will wipe away the tears of those that are crying over this insecurity. God will reign supreme in Nigeria, and Christians will ever remain united despite the security threat to disunite them,” he said.

The CAN scribe called on government to secure the affected communities, just as he advised the people to protect themselves against activities of the bandits.Earlier, Hayab had recalled various attacks on Kajuru and Sanga communities, leading to loss of lives and property as well as destruction of worship places. Hayab disclosed that relief materials worth millions of naira were contributed by various churches for seven IDP camps in the state.

He specifically said that 100 bags of fertiliser and 100 bundles of roofing sheets, as well as grains and clothing, were donated to the IDPs. Government provides security. The people also should try and defend themselves against attacks, because the greatest security should be the people; they should defend themselves too,” he said.
