CEPEJ urges president, others to forfeit six-month salaries over recession
The Centre for Peace and Environment Justice (CEPEJ) yesterday advised President Muhammadu Buhari against selling national assets to bail the country out of recession.
Rather, it urged political office holders from the president to state governors and lawmakers to sacrifice their six months or more salaries.
CEPEJ National Co-ordinator, Sheriff Mulade described those clamouring for the assets sale as enemies of the country and urged the president not to listen to them.
According to Mulade: “Some of these Nigerians who are calling for the assets sale also wanted former President Olusegun Obasanjo to do same when he was in power and he resisted them. They do not mean well for the nation and the common man.”
Suggesting the way out of the recession, Mulade wants the president, vice president, Senate president, Senate deputy president, the speaker, the deputy speaker and the governors to sacrifice their six months’ salaries and make do with their allowances.
