Catholic bishop tasks Nigerians on corruption
The Catholic Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese, Most Rev. Augustine O. Akubeze has called on Nigerians to join in the fight against corruption just as he condemned the senseless killings and human rights abuses in many parts of the country.
He stated this during activities to mark this year’s Marian Year and the Centenary of Fatima Apparitions.
He said in his homily that Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, belongs to everyone in the Catholic Church. She, who is the mother of the Redeemer, cannot but intercede for the children her son has redeemed through his death on the cross.
“Let us call on her to help us overcome this endless and senseless killings of people. Let us ask her to help us bring an end to armed robbery, kidnapping and corruption. We will be able to know and appreciate Mary more when we listen and contemplate her message at Fatima”, he reiterated.”
The Coordinator of the Fatima Apostolate in Africa, Prof. Michael Ogunu said the Marian Year is a very significant to all Catholics because faithful are given an opportunity to express their dedication to blessed virgin Mary, the mother of God.
“This year was, in fact, gave an opportunity to all Catholics and indeed, Christians to celebrate the centenary of the apparitions of the blessed virgin Mary and Fatimam which took plac in 1917.
