Cardinal Arinze’s kinsmen flee community over insecurity

Fear has gripped some indigenes of Eziowelle, Idemili North Local Council of Anambra State, country-home of Francis Cardinal Arinze over possible attack by rival camp involved in the town union crisis.

The situation has forced some villagers, mainly youths believed to have opposed the renewed leadership of Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU), led by Titus Akpudo, to go into hiding.

Confirming the development, a community leader, Ugochukwu Asikwo said youths, whose names he did not want to disclose, had developed the habit of sneaking in and out of the community, so as not to be detected by those he labeled anti-community development elements.

Asikwo, who believes fear of insecurity has enveloped the community, following Titus Akpudo’s endorsement as the President-General of Eziowelle Improvement Union, against the position of majority of the indigenes.

He said Akpudo’s first tenure was cheerless and replete with allegations of high-handedness and lack of accountability.

He called on government to respect the views of majority of community members.

Another community leader, Chief Anthony Chigbo, said imposition of the president-general was causing much disaffection in the community and called on government to appoint a caretaker committee to run the town union’s affair.
