CAN urges Buhari to build Nigeria for next generation

The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to spend every day of his renewed administration building the nation for the next generation.

Bamgbola said this, yesterday, during the annual inter-denominational divine service (IDDS 2019) with the theme: “Walking In The Perfect Image of God,” which held at Shepherd Hill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos.

He said: “Buhari at his age is privileged to run second term, with no proven report that he has stolen like many politicians. However, he has the duty to not allow those plundering this nation to continue in their evil deed. If he would do this with every sense of commitment, he would remain an elder statesman like Mandela.”

He described as very apt, the theme of this year’s IDDS, which is relevant to all Christians in view of the various multi-faceted challenges facing the Church collectively and individually, and secondly as a nation which cuts across social, inter-personal, family, political, religious and denominational divides.

He urged Christians to make Jesus Christ, the epitome of love, their role model, Who humbled Himself to take on the form of a servant, the human form, for the purpose of sacrificing His life for human beings.

The Guest Speaker, Archbishop, Metropolitan See of Lagos, The Most Revd. Alfred Adewale Martins, represented by Rev. Father Steven Abiodun Akinsowon, charged Nigerians to love their neighbours as God loves them.

He charged politicians and leaders to desist from ruling in such a way that the poor get poorer, while the rich get richer.

“It is a tragedy of life for leaders to be benefitting from the good legacies of past generations and have no value to bequeath future generations,” he said.
