CAN seeks relaxation of lockdown for Easter celebration in Imo
• Index contact cases test negative for coronavirus in Enugu
• CLO want FG to rescue 300 stranded Nigerians in China
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Imo State yesterday urged the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to allow them to observe the holy week of Easter.
Its Chairman, Iheanyichi Godson-Ibechi, disclosed this during a meeting with the state Chairman of the COVID-19 Prevention Committee, Professor Maurice Iwu and other members of the panel.
Iwu, however, assured them that he would their table their request before the governor, to see the possibility of allowing Churches to celebrate Easter.
Godson-Ibechi, said Iwu was a round peg in a round hole, appealing to the church leaders to obey him as he addressed them.
Besides, indications have emerged that three contacts of the COVID-19 index cases in Enugu State have tested negative for the virus.
The Guardian learnt that the three contacts, a lady and two males who are relations to the husband and wife that tested positive for coronavirus have been tested twice and their results proved negative. Enugu currently has two confirmed cases of covid-19. The victims returned from the United Kingdom.
However, the state Ministry of Health has said that it was monitoring other contacts, stressing that the two index cases were stable and doing well.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of health, Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi said, “The State Disease Surveillance Office is working with its local government counterpart in four council areas and has listed all the contacts currently being monitored and which have been stable.”
Meanwhile, the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has asked the Federal Government to rescue and evacuate over 300 Nigerians who are trapped in China for business activities before the outbreak of the coronavirus.
