The president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has urged Nigerians to repent so that God could heal the land and restore losses of the past years.

He also called on the three tiers of government to make dividends of democracy available to the people, as well as gainfully engage the youths.

In his goodwill message yesterday in Abuja, Ayokunle noted that the economic recession notwithstanding, God would not allow the righteous to be consumed.

He noted that the nation would be better if justice and the fear of God were imbibed by both the government and the governed.

Ayokunle urged security agencies to be loyal to the nation, stressing that they have what it takes to stop the needless bloodletting in the country.

He appealed to politicians to avoid hate and inciting speeches, while urging eligible voters to always exercise their franchise.

In a similar vein, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, says it is only courage and commitment that would make a Christian remain faithful to his/her God.

Encouraging faithful not to entertain fear in the new year, Kumuyi assured the people of God’s presence if they obey Him and walk in righteousness all through the year.

In his cross over night message, entitled, The companion that never fails, in Lagos, the cleric said only Christians with strong desire to please God in the new year are the ones that would enjoy the presence of the Almighty.

Kumiyi, while calling on the congregation to emulate Joseph who made a vow not to sin against God and became prosperous as a result of his faithfulness, noted that same way, God would bless and prosper those who are faithful this year.

He said: “Joseph was successful because God was with him and this year God will bless you. Therefore, mediate on the words of God this year and not on the words of your persecutors. This year is not a year of fear, fear will ruin your life but exercise faith and love this year and you will conquer the world.”

Also yesterday, the General Overseer of Ewulomi Evangelical Church of Christ (Cherubim and Seraphim), Evangelist Oluwademilade Akpata, beseeched political leaders to shun corruption and other vices as well as be alive to God’s judgment.

In his message, he noted that if the citizens could internalise the commandments of God, there was light at the end of the tunnel. He called on church leaders to place God ahead of materialism.
