CAN, Governor Dickson sue for unity, peace, love

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has felicitated with Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of Eid el-Fitri and urged them to continue promoting peace, unity and love of the country.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, acting general secretary of the Christian body, Joseph Daramola, commended the leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and all Nigerian Muslims for a successful completion of the Ramadan fast and prayed God to answer the prayers they offered in the holy month.

Praying for the celebration to be terror-free, CAN called on Muslim faithful to continue restraining themselves from worldly desires as commanded by the Quran.

“As we begin another journey as a nation, we call on elected leaders at all levels to embrace fairness, equity and justice in all their appointments and governance.

“The time has come when our leaders should stop paying lip service to the peace, unity and stability of Nigeria. They should stop discrimination against fellow Nigerians because of their political, ethnic and religious differences. We all have roles to play in the building of a virile nation with stable polity and economic buoyancy,” CAN added.

Similarly, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has called on Muslims across the country to continue to live in peace with members of other religious sects.

The governor, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, described peace as catalyst for development.

Stressing that the current division along religious lines affects the growth of the country, he tasked Muslim leaders to always promote religious tolerance, peace and unity in their teachings.

While congratulating Muslims on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan, Dickson enjoined them to continue to pray for the country’s unity.

“I call on Muslims to live in peace with one another irrespective of any difference. As they celebrate Eid-el-Fitri, they should uphold the vital lessons of love, peace and perseverance, which the holy month teaches.

“I also urge Muslims to pray for the nation’s leaders to remain focused in the discharge of their duties for the overall interest of Nigerians. Most importantly, I call for religious tolerance to engender peaceful co-existence, unity and a prosperous Nigeria.”
