Calm returns to Oshodi as MC Oluomo leaves hospital

There was relative calm yesterday in Oshodi, the base of a chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, after a proof of life video appeared on Tuesday to dispel the news on social media that Oluomo was dead.

MC Oluomo had appeared in a live video with popular Fuji musician, Taiye Currency. The news of this not only put an end to rumours of his death but also lifted the air of suspense in Oshodi area of Lagos.

As residents heaved a sigh of relief, news also filtered in yesterday that MC Oluomo was on Tuesday night discharged from Eko Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained in an attack on him during the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ikeja on January 8.

According to reports, MC Oluomo left the hospital on Tuesday night after payment of over N2 million medical bill. A reliable source, who preferred anonymity, said the NURTW leader may have left for the United States immediately after he was discharged from hospital on Tuesday night.

“He is very fine and has nothing to worry about his health after his treatment at the hospital. Before he finally left on Tuesday night, he was receiving a lot of well-wishers. Sometimes, he moves around and sometimes walks his visitors to the corridor, so he was in sound health before leaving the hospital. Few days before he left the hospital, his associates were making arrangements for his trip,’’ the source said.

His residence at Oke-Afa area of Ejigbo was a beehive of activities as family members, friends and well-wishers thronged the house to catch a glimpse of MC Oluomo. Many cars lined the busy road on both lanes while police vans and blackmaria were stationed to provide adequate security.

When enquires were made, nobody was forthcoming on whether MC Oluomo was in the house receiving visitors. They only expressed excitement that the man whom many feared dead had been discharged and they were there to thank God for his recovery.

In a chat with The Guardian, Temitayo Titilayo said: “This is good news for us here in Oshodi, because we know that definitely he has survived the worst, which is the poison in the knife he was stabbed with. All he needs now is rest to heal well and am sure he will get that fully abroad.”

Linus Remilekun said: “For a minute, I never believed his death rumour. It is simple; he is not an ordinary man. So therefore, he couldn’t have died the way many people were expecting. The joy is that normalcy will now return to Oshodi.”
