TO nip in the bud the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram insurgents, President Muhammadu Buhari will tomorrow embark on a two-day trip to neighbouring Chad and Niger.

Spokesman for the president, Malam Shehu Garba, who confirmed the planned trip, said the President would specifically focus on “matters of security,” since Nigeria’s neighbours remain crucial to ending the Islamist uprising which has claimed more than 15,000 lives since 2009.

Shehu added that Buhari will spend a night in Niger before proceeding to Chad the next day (Thursday).”

He added that the trip is basically on obvious matters of security.

Meanwhile, the President also held a closed-door meeting for several hours yesterday at his Defense House temporary office, with the outgoing National Security Adviser to the former President, Sambo Dasuki, over the insecurity threatening the nation.

When GEJ visited these countries considering their strategic importance to the fight against boko haram, it was an embarrassment to Nigeria but today those who threw stones at GEJ are also visiting these countries. The difference though is these countries will be more cooperative. Don’t ask me why.
