President Muhammadu Buhari’s perceived second term ambition seems to have divided youth groups in the North. Less than 48 hours after the Arewa Youth Forum opposed the move, another youth group declared support for the incumbent.

The group, Democratic Vanguard For Credible Leadership, yesterday, urged Nigerians not to take the Forum, led by Ibrahim Gambo Gujungu, seriously on account of “its dirty antecedents of political opportunism and harlotry.”

It maintained that the Forum’s call on Buhari not to seek re-election because doing so “is inhuman and insensitive,” is misleading. It described Gujungu and his supporters as a band of “bread and butter activists.”

The leader of the Vanguard for Credible Leadership, Mallam Bello Muhammad Shehu Tureta, in a statement, yesterday, said Gujungu could not have been speaking on behalf of Northern youths whose future “was ruined by corrupt leaders in the past.”
