President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly in New York met with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal and explained why Nigeria is investing heavily in infrastructure development.

His words: “We are a large country, with a vast population and poor infrastructure. But we need people to invest in Nigeria and that is why we are focusing on roads, rail, power, airports, and many others. Without infrastructure, the investment would be slow.”

He commended Portugal for what he described as ‘steadfast support’ for Nigeria on many fronts, adding, “concern about global issues is genetic for Portugal.”

Responding, President de Sousa commended the excellent relations between both countries.
