Buhari Did Not Support Impeachment Plan Against Me, Says Fayose
EKITI State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has exonerated President Muhammadu Buhari of supporting the plot to impeach him by the former 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in the State House of Assembly.
Fayose, who spoke while inaugurating the Fifth Ekiti State House of Assembly yesterday, said that from the security report at his disposal, President Buhari had put behind him all tirades during the president election campaign.
The Governor, who thanked Buhari for his large heart, promised that as a member of the opposition party, he would work with the President for the interest of Ekiti people.
Meanwhile, the House yesterday elected former Fayose’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, representing Moba Constituency I, as the new Speaker. Also elected were Hon. Olusegun Adewumi from Ekiti West I, as Deputy Speaker; Hon. Sunday Akinniyi (Ikere II), as Chief Whip; and Hon. Olatunji Akinyele (Oye II), as House Leader.
Fayose, who had earlier held a victory rally around major roads in Ado Ekiti to express his gratitude to the people for their support during his trying times, said: “Available security reports showed that Buhari had no hands in the impeachment plot against him. The President had said that he has no enemy to fight. He said he has put the past behind him. Why were the APC lawmakers still bent on impeaching me? What is their own in this matter?” Fayose asked.
Fayose, however, promised to pay all the entitlements due to all the former 26 lawmakers in the spirit of oneness and unity, saying: “I won’t behave like them. I am going to give to all what is due to them, not only the G7 alone.”
He also promised to work with the new Assembly to bring the state out of the woods. He, however, warned the new Speaker against being over ambitious like the other former occupants of the seat.
“Whoever thinks he could impeach his governor and the deputy for him to become the Acting Governor always end being destroyed. You have to learn from history. Those who impeached me the other time had died politically today. I am a man destined for greatness and with the power of God, nobody can bring me down. I have defeated my enemies during elections and now I have defeated impeachment,” Fayose stated.
