British High Commissioner seeks investment in girl education
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Awkright has warned that lack of investment in girl-child education will hinder the country’s development.
Awkright said this, when he accompanied Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to commission Government Girls’ Secondary School, Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday.
He said: “There is no reason we should neglect half of our population, who can help ensure the country’s prosperity.
That is why education is important. That is why girl child-education is important. Without girl-child education, this country cannot thrive.”
The High Commissioner lauded the people of Rivers State for their warm reception, adding that he was genuinely pleased to be in the state, which he described as the heartbeat of Niger Delta region.
