BPE urges investigation of DisCos
The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has called for the audit of the 11 distribution companies (DisCos) in relation to their performance seven years after the conclusion of the power sector’s privatisation programme.
In a statement at the weekend in Abuja by its Director General, Alex Okoh, the agency said the appeal was to correct the impression that it was against the investigation of the activities of the utilities. The Discos, which were handed over to their investors in November 2013, were to be appraised in five years, according to the share purchase agreement entered into with the BPE.
The power firms had sued government for alleged interference in their operations.
They are particularly seeking an order to restrain the regulator, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the National Economic Council (NEC) from what they described as “undue interferences” in their activities.
