Benue CSOs hold one year memorial for victims of herdsmen attacks

Civil Society Organizations, CSOs in Benue state yesterday, held a candle light memorial procession in honour of the seventy-three victims killed by herdsmen on January 1, 2018 in Guma and Logo local government areas of Benue state.

In a chat with newsmen during the procession at the Tarka Foundation Makurdi, leader of the organizers and Programme Manager of Kase Foundation, Mlumun Ati said they are still in pains over the killings. She said the event was organised to honour the victims and the IDPs who are still passing through hard times in the camps.

She urged Nigerians to learn how to co-exist and stop the senseless killings and attacks on one another. “It our prayer and hope that adequate provisions are made for those suffering in the IDPs camps to return to their ancestral homes,” she added.

Also speaking, the President of the Benue Youth Congress Orngu Anngu expressed worry over attempts by some politicians in the state to change the narrative on the killings in the state and called on the political class to stop playing politics with human lives adding that those who carried out killings in the state came out publicly to take responsibility over the attack.
