Benin disco moves to restore electricity in Ondo south
BEDC Chief State Head, Ekiti and Ondo states, Mr. Edgar Ernest, disclosed this while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday at the Governor’s Office in Akure to end outage in the area.
Edgar noted that the N1.9 billion debt estimate of the six councils in the district has been classified into pre-privatisation and post-privatisation, commencing effectively with Odigbo Local Council.
He said the first phase will cover Odigbo with a term of agreement that stipulates that: “The outstanding debts for this local council will be divided into two; pre-privatisation and post-privatisation.
“Pre-privatisation means debt prior to co-investors’ take over, which is from November 2013. Post-privatisation debt we have agreed this morning that the customers will make payment of 50 per cent of that immediately.”
The BEDC chief stated that the other 50 per cent will be paid over a period of three months which has started counting, while the pre-privatisation will be paid over a period of one year.
The Chief Technical Officer of BEDC, Mr. Ashok Acharya, who represented the managing director, explained that the company is making efforts to serve its customers better.
Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Rotimi Adelola, urged the company to abide by the terms of the MoU, which includes the payment of debts, and restoration of electricity to the area within two weeks.
