GOMBE State Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has advised intending Muslim pilgrims to be good ambassadors and prayerful for the state and the county at large while in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Dankwambo, who gave the charge during the farewell ceremony for the 2015 intending pilgrims in Gombe, advised them to ensure they abide by all the rules and regulations for a successful and accepted hajj by God.

He said: “It is my sincere hope that you will be worthy ambassadors by exhibiting high sense of responsibility and dedication. I call on our pilgrims not to engage in rioting, demonstration or disobedience to constituted authorities.

“You should adhere strictly to the laid-down procedures of movement from Nigeria to the Holy Land and places like Jedda, Makkah, Madinah, Mina Musd alifah, Arafat and returning journey back home.”

Dankwambo, who also warned them to desist from drug peddling and other related offences, which are punishable by death penalty, called on them to pray for peace, unity, security, and prosperity of the state and the country at large.

Meanwhile, four pregnant women from the state, who were among intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2015 hajj, have been barred from performing the exercise.

The state Executive Secretary of Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Usman Gurama, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe, said the medical team detected the four pregnant women out of the more than 800 screened for the exercise.

He said the women would not be allowed to perform the hajj, assuring them however of getting automatic tickets in 2016.

Gurama also said all arrangements had been concluded for the transportation of the pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

According to him, the first flight would transport 500 out of the 1,9441 pilgrims and 10 officials on Thursday (yesterday) while the second and third batches would leave on August 29 and 30.

“We have already finished all arrangements; even the Basic Transport Allowance (BTA) is now ready and we have also made arrangement for enough security at the camp and airport,” he said.

He called on the pilgrims to co-operate with security operatives both in the country and while in Saudi Arabia for a successful exercise.

In his remarks, the Amirul-Hajj, Alhaji Abdullahi Mai-Kano, advised the family members and relations of the pilgrims not follow them up to the camp due to the security situation.
