As part of efforts to avoid possible clash between herdsmen and the civil populace, the Bayelsa State Government has donated 1,200 hectares of land to cattle rearers in the state.

Seriake Dickson

As part of efforts to avoid possible clash between herdsmen and the civil populace, the Bayelsa State Government has donated 1,200 hectares of land to cattle rearers in the state.

The large piece of land according to government was for grazing, ranching and slaughtering of their cattle in the state. The state government had announced the restriction of the activities of herdsmen in some areas of the state, including the state capital, Yenagoa.
The state government said its decision was to prevent the invasion of farmlands and check any security breaches.

Governor Seriake Dickson, who issued the restriction order late last year,  had said the measure became imperative in view of the recent upsurge in violence and criminal activities of some cattle rearers in some parts of Nigeria.

He had also warned cattle rearers against bearing arms in the course of grazing their livestock, threatening that anyone caught with weapons would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

sick decision from this governor, why can’t he establish this within his own state and employ indigenes of the state to manage the1200 hectares of land on a commercial basis, is it fair for him to “donate” his state’s land to these expasionists?

God! The southern Nigerians are the most political illiterate in history. Why are the villains and herdsmen looking for the grip of land and space in the south? They have more than even land up North but this stupid Governor has just played into their effort of making Fulani indigenous to every state. Maximum in 50years- in 5decade, they shall be massacring the Ijaw nation. They shall be demanding for sharia law and the governor won’t most likely be alive to revoke the Almighty 1,200 hectares of lands. I am a Yorúbà man but this news is very disheartening and I already feel so bad for the unborn generation of Ijaws that will be beheaded, lyched and massacre. Don’t ask Google about the activity of the Fulani herdsmen, ask the southern Kaduna people
