No less than 13 people, including women and children, have allegedly been shot dead by ravaging bandits in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident occurred at Unguwan Gizo village, at about 11 pm Thursday night, with the bandits said to have operated into wee hours of Friday morning.

This is even as bandits have reportedly attacked more than half dozen villages in Sabuwa council area, where they raped some women and rustled animals.

According to sources familiar with the Faskari incident, the bandits attacked three communities, including Unguwan Gizo, Sabon Layin Galadima, and Mairuwa.

They said that the bandits had stormed the affected communities in their numbers, riding on motorcycles.

One of the sources said the bandits shot and killed 13 persons at Unguwan Gizo, while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries from gunshot wounds.

He said the bandits abducted a middle-aged woman and rustled entire domestic animals in the community, including cows, sheep and goats.

He, however, said that the injured victims have been taken to hospital and are receiving attention from medical personnel.

At Sabon Layin Galadima, the source said the bandits shot one person, and broke into shops and carted away food and other related items.

He said that two persons were abducted at Mairuwa, while the bandits shot and wounded a teenager.

Another source familiar with the Sabuwa incident, Muhammad Kabir said bandits attacked six communities on the same day in the area.

He identified some of the affected communities to include Machika, Mai Gangumma, Dungun Muazu, among others.

He said though the bandits didn’t kill anyone, they, however, raped several women, and poured battery acid on the private part of one of the women.

He added that several animals were also rustled by the bandits and that similar attack had occured three days earlier where bandits abducted six people.

Spokesman for the police command in the state, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the Faskari attack saying, “yest it is true; 13 were killed,” and that the bandits “came to rustle animals and the villages confronted them which made the bandits attack.

Isah however said the police “keep telling people especially those at the front-line to avoid confrontation with these bandits because they are armed with AK-47 guns and you can’t fight them with dane guns and machetes.”
