AU honours Aregbesola for good governance

Rauf Aregbesola, Governor State of Osun.

African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC) has lauded the Osun State government for meeting the requirement set by the African Union Agenda 2063 programme for infrastructure development in Nigeria.

The AU noted that each ‎of the Osun social protection projects was in line with AU’s four key sectors like education, transport and road network, information and communication technology (ICT).

This was even as the union honoured Governor Rauf Aregbesola‎ with an award of excellence in good governance and physical infrastructural, capital and human development in the state.

The AU-ECOSOCC leadership gave the commendation weekend during a courtesy visit to the governor after the union’s three-day Agenda 2063 Advocacy Project Inspection Tour of Osun at the Government House, Osogbo.

AU-ECOSOCC representative in Nigeria, Dr Tunji Asaolu, commended Aregbesola’s government for paying adequate attention to AU details as reflected in the various development projects in the state in the last seven and half years.

Asaolu, who was accompanied by the AU-ECOSOCC Head of Secretariat in Nigeria, Ambassador Chinwe Maduke; the Ambassador of Antigua‎ Barbudi in Nigeria, Wallace Williams; and AU-ECOSOCC Attaché, Mrs. Kamsi Onyeuche, said Aregbesola had breathed light into governance through his monumental achievements.

He described Osun’s infrastructural development as unprecedented in the history of any state in Africa, adding that it was worthy of emulation.

According to Asaolu, the AU is proud of Aregbesola’s achievements in all sectors.

The AU-ECOSOCC official said his administration justified the mandate and confidence reposed in it by Osun people, contending that the state under Aregbesola had taken the lead in human and capital development.

Asaolu, who said his team was in the state to understudy, inspect and assess the good works of Aregbesola’s administration, acknowledged the government for meeting international standard, specification and expectation in its projects, particularly on roads, schools, health and security.

Describing Osun as a model in social investment, the AU official added that the state justified the essence of its existence as a constituted entity.

“The agenda 2063 is a continental framework and road-map for a prosperous Africa‎ based on inclusive growth and sustainable development, and we have to commend the Aregbesola administration for keying into the actualisation of the dreams of the African Union.‎

“Mr. Governor is being honoured today with our prestigious award, first of its kind, in recognition of his attention to details paid on the various legacies in infrastructure, which his government installed in the state in a way that can be seen as a standard and benchmark for other states in Africa,” he said.
