The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Agriculture, Makurdi (ASUU-FUAM) chapter has called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to rescue a member, Christie O. Agbulu, abducted two weeks ago in Lokoja.

At a press conference in Lokoja yesterday, the Acting Chairperson of the ASUU-FUAM Chapter, Bemgba Anjembe narrated that on November 26, 2016, Agbulu, a lecturer in the Department of Biological Science, University of Agriculture, Makurdi was abducted by kidnappers on arrival at Lokoja.

According to Anjembe, the abductors on that fateful day used the cell phone of the victim to demand a ransom of N150, 000 to free her. Out of this amount, N100, 000 was paid into her bank account and the kidnappers quickly used Agbulu’s ATM card to withdraw the money.

The ASUU chief said that since then the union members have not heard anything from the abductors.

Anjembe explained: “On November 30, 2016 a delegation of the union came to Lokoja to meet with the police. We were assured that something was being done. The following day we went back to the Police ‘A’ Division Lokoja and they reassured us that they were in control of the situation and would soon find her.

“But today, it is almost three weeks our colleague was abducted and there is no information about her whereabouts. Even the abductors no longer call us. We were constrained to petition the Inspector General of Police on December 5, 2016 over this ugly situation to which no response has been received.”

The union leader appealed to the security agencies and Governor Bello, the chief security officer of the state to do everything possible to rescue the innocent woman.
