The leadership of Taraba State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), yesterday, put smiles on the faces of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at two major camps in Jalingo, the state capital.

Many of the IDPs could not hold back tears at the gesture by ASUU, which they described as the only government institution that has come to their aid since the unrest that led to their displacement.

The state ASUU chairman, Rueben Jonathan, said the association saw “pictures of how people are suffering. So, our members felt we should, as a matter of urgency, do something to cushion the effects.”

Jonathan sympathised with the people, especially those currently taking refuge at the Central Primary School, Jalingo. He pleaded with them to eschew acts capable of breaching the peace.

He called on relevant authorities to put in place measures that would make the IDPs forget their pains. He added that ASUU would continue to embark on humanitarian ventures despite delay in the payment of its monthly remunerations.Dauda Marafa, Chairman, Relief Sub-committee of the IDPs, thanked the donors.
