Associations fault ALGON, NULGE over revenue collection

THE National Association of Stickers/Emblem Employers Association of Nigeria (NASEEN) and Vehicles Emblems and Stickers Permit Operators Association of Nigeria (VESPOAN) have restated that it was their statutory responsibility to collect revenue on behalf of local councils across the federation, calling on the public and motorist to disregard the purported claim by “some mischief advert tax collectors under the guise of Joint Mobile Adverts Agency of Nigeria (JOAN)/Mobile Advertisers Association of Nigeria (MOAN) as being the sole authorised revenue collection arm of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

In a statement yesterday signed by NASEEN and VESPOAN president, Comrade Chris Eigbedion, he faulted the position of ALGON and NULGE as backing only a certain group as sole revenue agent on behalf of the union.

According to him: “ALGON and NULGE are workers’ unions with the sole responsibility of ensuring workers’ welfare and have never been constitutionally empowered to constitute themselves with the responsibility of collecting tax on behalf of Local Government Councils in Nigeria.”

Eigbedion expressed dismay with the leadership of the two unions over what he described as “illegal conspiracy and intent to mislead the public,” accusing both of connivance with JMOAN and MOAN to perpetrate illegality under the guise of stamping out multiple taxation in the sector.
