Confirm expulsion of ex-Superintendent Emeka

Leaders of the Assemblies of God Church have affirmed the expulsion of its former General Superintendent (GS), Reverend (Prof.) Paul Emeka and warned him to desist from further holding on to the property of the church.

The leaders, at a world press conference in Abuja, insisted that the ex-GS remained suspended, excommunicated, dismissed and dis-fellowshipped by the church in line with the judgments of the Court of Appeal in Enugu and that of the Supreme Court delivered on February 24 this year.

The conference was aimed at announcing the communiqué of its incorporated trustees general council meeting where the northern leaders of the church also dissociated themselves from a splinter group operating under the aegis of the Northern Assemblies of God General Council being purportedly represented by one Mr. Nicholas Anyanwu.

Spokesman for the northern leaders, Rev. Bawa Gadima, told the news conference that the said Anyanwu had no legal right to lay claim to the name of the church for whatever purposes having been disciplined and ceased to be a member of the church.

Gadima, who is the Kaduna South Superintendent of the church, disclosed that Anyanwu was shown the way out of the Assemblies of God for allegedly selling the church land at Gwarimpa in Abuja to an hotelier without authority of the church to do so.

In the communiqué read at the press conference, Rev. Gadima said that the entire members of the church worldwide had unanimously elected Rev. Chidi Okoroafor as the new General Superintendent and head of the church and would continue to hold him as such in line with relevant provisions of the church decision.

The communiqué read in part: “That the Assemblies of God Nigeria is one church under the Almighty God and accordingly registered in Nigeria in accordance to the laws of Nigeria as CAC/IT/No.349.

“That only the Incorporated Trustees of the Assemblies of God Nigeria are authorised by law to hold any property of the Assemblies of God Nigeria – any other person holding any property of the Assemblies of God Nigeria in defiance of the clear provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act shall be prosecuted accordingly.”

He, therefore, appealed to those allegedly deceived by the Emeka leadership to come back to the church and join hands with the new General Superintendent.
