The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, ruling All Progressives Congress governorship in Lagos State candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other prominent Nigerians on Friday attended the 2018 edition of ART X Lagos which opened with a VIP preview on Friday.

ArtXLagos 2018, founded in 2016 by Tokini Peterside to showcase the best and most innovative contemporary art from the African continent and diaspora, was declared opened by the Ooni of Ife at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the Monarch said art connects the human race with the past and future while it also plays a pivotal role in binding the human race together.

“The lovers of Art might not know the spirituality involved in it, it actually connects, replicates various imagination of things that have happened in the past, and in the present and what will actually happen in the future,”Ooni said.

“What we are doing today is something that binds all of us together.”

The 3-day art exhibition and fair will feature 18 renown galleries from different countries from within and outside Africa.

Other features of the fair include Art X talks which hold on November 3. Curated by Missla Libsekal, Art X Talks will feature a series of exciting and engaging talks from key stakeholders in Africa’s art economy among which is the internationally renowned artist, Yinka Shonibare MBE, who will be celebrated with a highly anticipated exhibition, exploring his career highlights at the fair.

There will also be the ART X Prize, and the audience favourite – ART X Live, which will see performances by Teni the Entertainer, Ghanaian musician Amaarae, and BOJ, accompanied by some of Lagos’ finest emerging visual and graphic artists.
