Three soldiers would soon face court martial for illegally escorting a man who paraded himself as a Colonel of the Nigerian Army, one Prince Onyemauche.

While parading the allegedly ‘fake’ Colonel yesterday at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman said the suspect was arrested on February 16, 2016 by troops of 176 Guard Battalion along Wazobia motor park in Gwagwalada after he breached a check point.

Usman said the suspect, resident in Lagos and an indigene of Imo State, was arrested with an AK-47 assault rifle with four magazines “out of which two were empty, while the other two were loaded with 42 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.”

He added that a luger pistol, 21 x 9mm parabellium ammunition and the sum N1,011,300 only were also recovered from the man.

Other items recovered from the suspect’s grey-coloured Toyota Tacoma pick-up van with registration number Lagos, LSD 05 BM, include “six GSM handsets, one Samsung galaxy Tablet, 12 cheque booklets, six ATM cards, drivers license, a temporary drivers license belonging to Rasaq Olanrewaju, INEC voters card, one expended case of 9mm parabellium ammunition, seven funds transfer forms for Zenith Bank and Ecobank and a sales invoice number 19822 for Blessed Triplet pharmacy.”

Usman said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect as a habit acquired Army escorts, albeit illegally, whenever he was travelling to his village or coming to do ‘business’ in Abuja.
