Army inaugurates court martial to try 21 accused soldiers

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Benson Akinroluyo, has inaugurated a court martial to try 21 suspected soldiers in the counter-insurgency operations in Northeast.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Benson Akinroluyo, has inaugurated a court martial to try 21 suspected soldiers in the counter-insurgency operations in Northeast.

Inaugurating its members on Thursday, at Maimalari Cantonment Officers’ Mess, Maiduguri, he said the court stipulated principles of natural justice, equity and fairness in guiding its conduct of trials of accused soldiers.

He said there was no reason to fear, as the court would carry out proceedings in accordance with the extant rules and regulations.

He also said President of Court, Maj-Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim, with other members, would try suspects.
