Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor State of Osun.

Worried about the lingering crisis at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, the Osun state government has accused its management of frustrating peace efforts. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Adelani Baderinwa disclosed this in a statement.

He urged the public to prevail on the management and staff of the university to be considerate to end the crisis in the interest of the students.Baderinwa said government was doing everything possible to resolve the crisis to enable the school to reopen.

The commissioner alleged that some elements in the university were not sincere in resolving the matter, accusing them of deliberately frustrating the efforts to end the crisis.

According to the commissioner, the setting up of the Wole Olanipekun-led visitation panel was a bold step by the state to end the problem. The panel had recommended the auditing of the university, which made the two owner states to engage the services of an audit firm, KPMG.

The Osun government commended the Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi for his understanding and commitment to bringing the institution back on track.“It is disturbing, especially at this period of recession to know that LAUTECH operates 97 bank accounts even though the Treasury Single Account (TSA) had become the order of the day. There are 10 chief accountants in the university, unlike what we have in other universities.

“Also worrisome is the panel’s report that LAUTECH had lost some money in many distressed banks. For the 27 years of its existence, Osun State government has lived up to its expectations as equal partner,” it said.

The statement added it had single-handedly funded the infrastructure’s development in the Osun campus, even though 85 per cent of its structures are in Oyo State.
