APC governors seek probe of constituency projects

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) yesterday supported purported moves by anti-graft agencies to probe alleged infractions in execution of constituency projects by the Eighth National Assembly.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who spoke during the inaugural meeting of the PGF Legislative Programme Steering Committee in Abuja, explained that the move was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s anti-corruption campaign.
Represented by his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, he said the probe should not be misunderstood to mean that members of the Eighth National Assembly failed to execute constituency projects.

He was responding to reporters’ questions on whether the probe would not affect the new rapprochement between the executive and legislative arms of government.He pointed out that the forum has put in place measures aimed at ensuring cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government to implement the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) manifestos.

Obaseki, who is co-chair of the steering committee, which includes Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi and Leader of the House of Representative, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, explained that the initiative would help to avert any form of bickering between both arms of government on the issue of constituency projects.

“That does not mean that there would be no disagreements or conflicts any more in the future, because conflicts are inevitable outcomes of politics and political activities, but through regular engagement and interactions between the executive and the legislature, we will take steps to ensure that all emerging conflicts are resolved. “As governors, we have remained focused on the task of delivering optimum social goods to our people. This is in line with the progressive credentials of our party,” he stated.
