Mr Hilliard Etta, APC National Vice Chairman, South-South, says he is optimistic that the Federal Government will reconstruct and rehabilitate the dilapidated federal roads in Cross River.

Etta expressed his optimism in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Calabar.

He said that the present administration was very concerned about the deplorable condition of roads in the South-South and had taken steps to fix them.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of the deplorable condition of roads in Cross River.

“That is why he ensured that the Calabar-Itu road and Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja highway projects were included in this year’s budget.

“He is aware of the difficulty that our people currently face while using the two major roads, but I can assure you that the problem will soon be over.

“As we speak, a tender is already out for the award of contract for Calabar-Itu road. That of the Lagos-Calabar rail line project is in the pipeline.

“Mr President will reconstruct and rehabilitate all the federal roads in the region, because he knows that we are the geese that lay the golden eggs, ‘’ he said.

The vice chairman called on the governors in the South-South to embark on projects that would impact positively on the people.

“It is better to rehabilitate existing important roads than to embark on the construction of new ones that will require huge amounts and long time to finish,‘’ he said.
