APC best platform to realise Urhobo political aspirations, says Omo-Agege

• Makes case for funding of FUPRE
President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) represent the most viable avenue to realise the collective aspirations of Urhobo, deputy president of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has said.

Addressing the 2019 annual convention of Urhobo Progress Union America (UPUA) in Philadelphia, Senator Omo-Agege called on the Urhobo to consolidate and move forward with a progressive party.

He emphasised the theme of the convention, ‘Accelerating the Socio-economic Development of Urhoboland through Investments in Education’.

Represented by Rev. Francis Waive representing Ughelli North/South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, the senator recalled that alliance of the Urhobo with national ruling parties such as the National Council of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC), the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the APC significantly advanced their collective interests and brought political influence as well as national projects to Urhoboland.

Also, he has vowed to take up the challenge of ensuring full implementation of the law that established the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, in Delta State.

Observing that the university was not properly funded, he promised to personally change the narrative.

“FUPRE must not die: education in every sense is one of the fundamental factors of development,” he said.

He added: “The law mandates the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Nigerian Content Developmental and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to be part of the funding of the university by remitting two per cent of their annual budget to it.”
