PRACTITIONERS and fans of the Nollywood industry were thrown into deep mourning on Sunday January 18 when news broke that one of Nollywood’s favourite actors, Muna Obiekwe had passed on. The busy actor reportedly    died of kidney related health issue at a medical facility in Festac Town area of Lagos. He was aged 36.

An actor of vast credit who was clearly one of the leading Nollywood men, Muna, a native of Obosi in Anambra State was consistent and hardworking. Producers, mostly those in Asaba, Delta State and the Onitsha, Enugu and Aba axis, would insist on Muna as the leading man.

There was a time when Muna was in eight out of every 10 movies released from that axis. He was that busy and resourceful. Meanwhile, condolences have continued to pour in for the actor who is survived by a wife, two children, parents and siblings.

Star actress Genevieve Nnaji described him as a gifted actor with a good heart. President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberisima says she is still in shock. “It is hard to describe Muna in the past”, she said. Popular actress, scriptwriter and producer Uche Jombo posted this terse tribute on her twitter handle:  “It’s not the length of life but the depth of life. RIP Muna!’’. No date has been announced for the burial.
