Amosun denies TraderMoni programme disruption in Abeokuta
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has denied that some hoodlums disrupted distribution of TraderMoni in Abeokuta, the state capital on Wednesday.
Some national dailies (The Guardian inclusive) had reported that attempt by organisers of Federal Government’s Enterprise and Employment Programme (GEEP), popularly known as TraderMoni, to distribute money to traders at the Lafenwa market under the scheme was frustrated by hoodlums.
But Amosun, speaking on the state-owned television, OGTV, debunked the story.
He said: “TraderMoni is not just done by putting pen on paper. Some hoodlums just went there, and the market women called us from the market that some people came to say they should bring their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), names and (phone) numbers.
“Of course, I know that the vice president handles TraderMoni. It is a structured programme, not two days to elections, some people would just carry one paper, give them (market women) and tell them to bring their PVCs and write their names.
“That wasn’t TraderMoni; it was just a way to con our people to part with their PVCs. I just told them (traders) to ignore them.
“How can I sit down as a governor and allow that to happen?”
Amosun expressed support for the TraderMoni initiative, which he described as a well-structured scheme.
